First Frost

There was a thin sheen of translucent white across the grass. My breath was quite visible as I ran the hounds and noted a cold full moon setting in the dawn's early light of Sunrise Peak. I had to fish out the scraper out of the backseat to use on Old Scratch.

Despite this, I wore shorts. Meteorological prophecy foretold of mid-sixties and light breezes. I had my vest, and learned from the time I was caught upon the tundra in a graupel storm; as long as my core is warm and I stay in motion, I'll be fine. The sun was starting to flood into the valley.

The aspens will start turning very soon. Those first flakes a nearer than further. I will be snowshoeing and not wearing shorts before long.

But, not yet. Not yet...

  1. This is my favorite time of year...when the weather starts getting colder. I love it. I haven't had to get out the scraper yet. But that's not too far away :)

  2. I've been reveling in the rain that's been bucketing down since yesterday morning. The chill, the almost instant greening of dead brown grasses after months of scorching heat, the heavenly, musical sounds pummeling the roof, pinging against the windows. Oh, how I love Fall...

    1. As of late, I've been a little leery of rain...

Although, as of this moment, I can see some aspens changing up on my personal Kilimanjaro. It has begun, and, thus, the cycle.

    1. Today there has been hail, turning to snow at eleven-thousand. A neighbor said they figure the snow-line will be ten-thousand tonight...eight-hundred vertical above us.

      Reckon it's autumn...

    1. There were flakes of snow falling at my house this morning, though the ground is still too warm for it to stick.

  5. We're having a cool spell here, as well. It hasn't been over ninety all week.

    (It's practically sweater weather.)
