Hot Weather

It's been getting into the early eighties. Y'know, punk rock, new wave, Madonna. Okay, not really, but it is showing those numbers on the fahrenheit scale.

Around these parts, that's hot! In the past, I've told my daughter of us having hot weather and mentioned the ambient air temperature, and you can see her restraining from starting her next sentence with fuck you, Dad. Only a sadistic man would find amusement in this, and I am not a sadistic man.

The river is peaking with its rushing runoff. In the next week I should be able to cross the waters of Brown's and Grizzly Gulch. The up top snow slowly shrinks from view. Summer in our Sahel.

Father's Day is coming and I think I'm going to make myself a particular spicy shrimp recipe that is recommend to consume on a hot summer's day, preferably with a bottle of white. I've never been a fan of Mother's or Father's Day, but, with the hot weather, I think I'm just going to suck it up, and take that spicy bullet, for the team.

You're welcome...

  1. I consider anything above the mid 70s to be hot, so you won't be getting an f-u from me -.-

I would if I could, but unfortunately I don't have the ability to hibernate. I don't know about you, but the only reason why I don't move to South Pole during the summer months are the lively scenes summer puts up.

    1. I like the balance of the seasons. Snow and snowshoeing is fun, but I also enjoy being in sandals and soaking my feet in the river after a hike.

    2. I also enjoy the balance of seasons. What I don't enjoy is the prolonged period of hot temperature, especially in an environment where the only place to cool off is under a roof, in the presence of artificially cooled air. Whatever you described sounds lovely, I remember doing something like that when I was little.

    3. I would say someday, get yourself to some mountains; be it the Rockies, the Andes, Hindu Kush, or Virunga. Barring that, somewhere along higher latitudes, like Scotland, Iceland, Alaska, or Patagonia. That might be something you'd like, given your temperature preferences ;).

    4. Well, I'm not a complete mountain bum ;D Years in a city setting has domesticated me. I do appreciate a place where wilderness and civilization meet, preferably by a large body of water.

      I'm such a picky person right? -.-

    1. Some interesting stuff came out of the eighties for sure. And, yes, the shrimp recipe is lovely. I'm excited to make it, it's been a couple years.

  3. 80s at your elevation? That has to be an aberration, right? Bet your nights are cool though. If I just knew the scorching heat of the day would end with a comfortable chill after sunset, I might stop dreaming about that cabin in Alaska...maybe.

    1. We smack the low eighties once or thrice a summer. It got to eighty-eight last year, just before the monsoon. Now the nineties would be cause for doomsayer fears, and, it is a fear of mine, we'll start seeing that up here in the next few years.

The nights are still pleasant, though. I sometimes require a sweater.
